Valentine’s day is coming-up and if you’re in a couple you’ll no doubt be thinking about how to spend it with your significant other. Whether you and your partner are living apart or in a bubble together, Valentine’s day in lockdown is going to feel a bit different this year. So how can you celebrate the most romantic day of the year while staying safe? Don’t worry, here at Macb we’ve got some lockdown date night suggestions so you and your partner can keep the spark going this Valentine’s!
1. Virtual movie night
Taking in a romantic film is a great way to celebrate Valentine’s day. Even if you’re living apart from your partner you can still recreate the movie magic remotely and watch together through services like Scener, which acts as a virtual movie theatre. Other great options are Teleparty and BBC Together.
2. Candlelit dinner
The classic option of dining in a fancy restaurant to celebrate Valentine’s day is off the menu this year but that doesn’t mean you can’t try and recreate the romantic ambience at home. Order yourself a nice takeaway, dim the lights, light a few candles, and dress as you would if you were going out for the night. If you’re a #boldyin you could even give the night a bit of a twist and order each others dinner!
3. Karaoke
Karaoke and romance may not go hand in hand, but it will surely be a fun Valentine’s night if you #livebold and belt out some songs with your partner! All you need to serenade each other in the comfort of your own living room is to turn-up the tunes and find the song lyrics on your phone. (Macb bottles work perfectly for make do microphones!)
4. Draw or paint each other
If you want to be a #boldyin and do something a little different for Valentine’s, how about drawing or painting each other? You can lovingly gaze at one another as you recreate your partner’s beauty in a stunning portrait. Or, if you’re not very good at drawing, you’ll hopefully be able to laugh at your dodgy caricatures of one another!
5. Catch a performance
If you fancy a bit of culture this Valentine’s then why not catch a performance online? If you’re up for a laugh then NextUp Comedy has some great stand-ups, as does Crack comedy. If you’re in the mood for theatre then why not try National Theatre at Home, and you can also find dance and romantic opera on Marquee TV.
6. Play a game
If you’re a bit of a #boldyin you might want to spice-up Valentine’s with a game. Maybe you could play ‘Never Have I Ever’ or the viral TikTok version ‘Put a Finger Down’ or ‘Question Time’ challenges. If you own a games console you could have a competitive game of Mario Kart or if you really want to risk your relationship you could bring out the Monopoly board!
7. Try an online escape room
If you want to #livebold this Valentine’s then try an online escape room with your partner. What could be more romantic than surviving an escape room together? This one’s for true #boldyins!
