Gyms have reopened so it’s time to get those fitness levels back-up! Don’t worry if it feels a bit daunting, we’ve got five top tips to get you back in the swing of things.
1) Go easy on yourself
It’s likely you won’t be at the level you were at before if you haven’t been exercising regularly. Don’t get too frustrated though, as the worst thing you can do is to push yourself too hard and risk injury. Instead, it’s best to be patient, as your body will get back up to speed within a few weeks with a regular workout.
2) You’ll probably feel a bit sore
If you haven’t been to the gym for a while then prepare to feel a bit sore the next day. This is perfectly normal, and after a few sessions, you’ll find yourself recovering faster.
3) Remember to do some stretching
A great way to help the recovery process is to do some stretches before and after exercising. It’s worth taking five minutes to do this as you’ll improve your workout performance and also lower your chances of injury.
4) Try something new
A good way to get your motivation back is to try going to a new class. Check which ones are back on in your local gym and find something to get you buzzing – we love a sh’bam class!
5) Drink water
If you’ve been spending a lot of time with your feet up at home recently then you’ll need to keep hydrated as your body gets used to more physical exercise. Drinking water won’t just benefit your performance, it’ll also help with recovery. So make sure you pack a bottle of bursting with flavour Macb in your gym bag!
